Evil Rock music is a popular Fundagelical narrative. Rock music is derived from African music beats; therefore, it is evil. I wonder if they are familiar with music at all. Blues, Jazz, Rhumba, R&B, Rock, and even Gospel music all derive from African music. The twist is that Fundagelicalsclaim the specific beat of Rock music derives from occult music used to summon demons. Where’s the evidence you might ask. It’s all anecdotal. It’s all missionaries from Africa telling a friend of a friend kind of story. Here’s a good example,
“In 1981, I was driving down a jungle road in the Ivory Coast with several African pastors in the car with me. I had recently received a couple of cassette tapes from our denominational headquarters that were intended for our teenaged daughter. These were recordings of various Christian rock artists. In listening to the tapes, I was very disturbed in my own spirit that such material was being sent to our missionary kids. But not trusting my own reaction alone and realizing that these pastors with whom I was traveling were very sensitive to the spirit world (both good and evil), I decided to play the tapes for them. The reaction I got was immediate and verbally violent! One of the pastors asked me this question, Do you mean to tell us that this kind of music is played in your churches in America? I answered in the affirmative. His response was filled with disgust and anger as he replied with another question. What are you doing allowing your church people in America to call up the evil spirits with their music?”

We are supposed to take the word of Joe Meyer because he has the word “Rev.” in front of his name. However, as a member of the very non-exclusive “Rev.” club, I know pastors make stuff up. They tend to exaggerate their stories or fudge a few details to make their sermon illustrations more interesting. They borrow stories from Chicken Soup for the Soul and claim it as their own. They pass on urban legends as fact. I also know that when it comes to Satan, there are so many false testimonies and lies out there that its parked the satanic panic of the ’80s. When I hear “evidence” like this, I always want something more than some guys story as proof.
That’s the thing with Fundagelicals; they don’t need facts or evidence. The story confirms what they want to believe so it must be true. There is a name for that; it’s called confirmation bias. It’s the same reason no one fact checks the quotes and memes that circulate on Facebook. Someone sees a meme that says AlexandriaOcasio-Cortez is a Satanist-trilateral-commission-Illuminati-pedophile and they immediately like and repost the meme.
How about a little evidence like a video recording of Africans using Stairway to Heaven to actually summon a demon. Can’t Fundagelicals just say they don’t like the music and leave it at that? Why do they need to get all “It’s evil” about it?
Fundagelicals love them some men’s Gospel quartets, but you don’t see me explaining how four-part harmony is evil. You know that in the Rosicrucian writings of Behmen, Fludd, and Maier, we find the occult dogma that the four elements are peopled by spirits, beings who may influence the destiny of Man. All quartet music represents these four elements. Also, did you know there are four Masonic virtues? Gospel men’s quartets can thus be traced to both Masons and Rosicrucians. How evil is that? A friend of mine, who is a pastor, heard from an African missionary that an elderly woman burst into flame at a Bill Gaither concert after hearing I Just Feel Like Something Good Is About to Happen.
If you don’t like the music that doesn’t make it evil but it just might make you old.
