Sean Spicer can’t dance because you hate Jesus.

Let me start with full discloser here; I have never watched an episode of Dancing with the Stars. I’m not a big fan of ballroom dancing, and I personally dance like a white guy.

Dancing with the Stars is an exercise in stunt casting putting improbable D-list celebrities on TV to dance. This new season cast Sean Spicer as a contestant for the mirrored ball trophy.

Honestly, I don’t care. The former Trump press secretary can capitalize on his fast-fading fifteen minutes of fame by going on a dance competition if he wants. Anything for a buck . . .  right? However, when politics and faux religious persecution suddenly gets inserted into a dance competition, I got to comment.

Sean Spicer began his stint on Dancing with the Stars by doing a salsa dance number. it wasn’t very good. He dances like a white guy, and he dances better than me. The judges gave him a relatively low score. He didn’t get the lowest score, but it was low enough to signal he might not be on the show for very long.

So far, I have no problem with this. It’s a game an competition. Enter Mike Huckabee. Yep, the former Governor of Arkansas, failed Republican presidential nominee, and father of Sean Spicer replacement Sarah Huckabee Sanders. Mike Huckabee tweeted out,

“Wanna create an emotional meltdown in Hollyweird?  Vote for @seanspicer  to win “Dancing with the Stars” tonight and every night he’s on. @seanspicer  is a good guy and a brave sport to go on DWTS.  Let’s show him some love! https://dwtsvote.abc.go.com

I don’t have a problem with some fanboy asking people to upvote his crush, but the whole idea that it would cause an emotional meltdown in “Hollyweird” is just Fundagelical speak for “Hollywood is liberal and hates conservatives, so this whole thing is rigged.” conspiracy nonsense. It’s the same old dog whistle to his Fundagelical base that ends any real meaningful discussion and defines the world into a false dichotomy of us vs. them. Hey Mike, “Hollyweird” won’t go into meltdown, they would be gloating all the way to the bank pleased as punch that their stunt casting worked and everyone was engaged in watching and voting. Sean Spicer making it to the finals would be a rating coup. Mike, are you sure you’re not shilling for ABC?

To make matters worse, Sean Spice, in a now-deleted tweet, replied to Huckabee. (Cue the faux persecution)

“Thank you @GovMikeHuckabee Clearly the judges aren’t going to be with me. Let’s send a message to #Hollywood that those of us who stand for #Christ won’t be discounted. May God bless you https://t.co/Qqa9xi3pIM— Sean Spicer (@seanspicer)”

Did you catch it? Sean Spicer implies that the Judges scored him low, not based on his awful dance ability, but because he stands for Christ. He’s being persecuted on Dancing with the Stars because he’s a Christian.

I can imagine my Great Auntie Griselda now calling all the culture warriors on her prayer chain telling them to vote for Sean Spicer. I’m sure the entire Joshua Generation was on high alert to claim the mirrored ball prize for Christ. IFB pastors must be in a snit trying to decide whether or not to condemn Spicer for dancing or rise up and fight “Hollyweird’s” persecution of Christianity.

Seriously!? You think your low score was because you’re a Christian? Sean, I hate to break it to you, but Jesus is known for his honesty, he’s not thinking, “Stop persecuting my child,” He’s probably thinking, “Wow, Spicer looks terrible in Neon green ruffles, and he sure can’t dance.” It’s this kind of crass insertion of faux Christian persecution that destroys the credibility of Christians everywhere. Sean, get over it, you just can’t dance.
