If you wondered where your crazy Great Auntie Griselda gets all her bigoted, homophobic, and conspiracy-laden facts, she’s probably been listening to Bryan Ficher.

Ficher discovered that the media love extremist sound bites and he’s been dishing them up for well over a decade. It’s hard to take this guy seriously as he spouts off anti-everything diatribes that send facts, logic and any semblance of coherence fleeing from the room.

His official biography from the American Family Association website, which has now been removed after he was fired due to his extremist views appears below.

Bryan Fischer is the Director of Issue Analysis for Government and Public Policy at the American Family Association, where he provides expertise on a range of public policy topics. Described by the New York Times as a “talk-radio natural,” he hosts the “Focal Point” radio program on AFR Talk, which airs live on weekdays from 1-3 p.m. Central on American Family Radio’s nationwide talk network of 125 stations.

A graduate of Stanford University and Dallas Theological Seminary, Bryan pastored in Idaho for 25 years, during which time he served for one session as the chaplain of the Idaho state senate. He founded the Idaho Values Alliance in 2005 and is a co-author of Idaho’s marriage amendment. He has been with AFA since 2009.

In his role as a spokesman for AFA, he has been featured on media outlets such as Fox News, CBS News, NBC, CNN, the New York Times, the Wall Street Journal, the BBC, Russia Today television and the Associated Press, has been a frequent guest on talk radio to discuss cultural and religious issues. He has been profiled in publications such as the New York Times,

Newsweek, the New Yorker, and BuzzFeed. He has been married to his bride, Debbie, since 1976, and they have two grown children.

Of course, not mentioned in his official biography was his dismissal from his pastor position because of his extreme views. also not mentioned is his dismissal from AFA because his extreme views led to the Southern Poverty Law Center labeling AFA as a hate group. The AFA dismissed him and disavowed his “opinions” yet continue to publish his opinion pieces and distribute his radio show.

Here’s a quick sampling of Fischer’s claims.

  • Adolph Hitler was gay, and the Nazi’s were a homosexual movement. You can thank highly discredited author Scot Lively and his book The Pink Swastika for giving Ficher this piece of shock jock journalism.
  • Ficher encouraged Christians to kidnap children adopted by same-sex couples and move them to safe heterosexual homes through an Underground Railroad system.
  • Ficher denies AIDS is caused by a virus but is a result of the homosexual lifestyle of using too many party drugs.
  • Religious freedom, as guaranteed by the Constitution of the United States, is only for Christians, not other religious groups.
  • Ficher claimed the Medal of Freedom honor had been feminized because it was being given to soldiers for saving lives rather than soldiers killing others.
  • Ficher also claimed that Native Americans deserved to lose their homeland to the colonist because their superstition, savagery, and sexual immorality disqualified them from sovereign control of American soil.

Listening to Bryan Ficher is like listening to my Fundagelical relatives at the last Thanksgiving dinner. I’m left shaking my head wondering how they can believe any of this.

Fischer has been described as being very media savvy. He discovered more than a decade ago that the media eats up crazy Fundagelical soundbites and he’s been selling them the crazy they want. Similar to other shock jocks and conspiracy nuts, you have to wonder if they really believe all this stuff or if they know they are just spouting crazy to make a buck.

In either case, Ficher is just another “Profit of Hate” because he earns his living off bringing out the worse in people. His diatribes fuel the homophobia, transphobia, Islamophobia, racism, sexism, and every other vile turn-neighbor-against-neighbor nonsense out there. He does it in the name of God as a “True Christian.” The Church needs to denounce him and his kind for the discord they sow. Ficher claims God hates gays, Islam, and feminist. Perhaps Ficher should read his Bible. “There are six things which the LORD hates, Yes, seven which are an abomination to Him: Haughty eyes, a lying tongue, And hands that shed innocent blood, A heart that devises wicked plans, Feet that run rapidly to evil, A false witness who utters lies, And one who spreads strife among brothers.” (Proverbs 6:16-19) Fischer lands on that list several times.
