Tony Perkins shares a name with a famous actor from a famous Hitchcock movie but let me assure you that Norman Bates was twice as charming and half as Psycho as this guy.

Perkins is a former reserve police officer, TV reporter for a small local station, and politician. If you wonder why so many of these “profits of Hate” have a political background, it is because of the religious Right’s grassroots strategy to take over politics starting with school boards, city councils, state legislatures, and work themselves up to the top levels of Federal government. Their strategy has been successful, and we are now seeing the Religious Right reap the benefits of their long term strategy they started back in the late 1970s.
In 1996, Perkins was running the campaign for State representative Woody Jenkins. Perkins used Courtney Communications as an intermediary company to buy robocalls from a company owned by the former head of the KKK David Duke. Perkins admitted to using Courtney Company to hide the connection to Duke. The Federal Elections Commission fined the campaign for illegally hiding the purchase.
In 2001, Perkins gave a speech to the Louisiana chapter of the hate group Council of Conservative Citizens. This group has known ties to white supremacist groups and David Duke. Perkins, like Jerry Falwell Sr., uses Religion for their racist agenda.
Perkins is currently President of the Family Research Council. (FRC)
According to Right Wing Watch, “The Family Research Council is a Washington, D.C.-based Religious Right organization that focuses on issues such as abortion rights, homosexuality, stem cell research, and the military. The group was founded in 1983 by a group of conservative leaders including Dr. James Dobson; between 1988 and 1992, it was the political affiliate of Dobson’s Focus on the Family. The FRC hosts conservative events including the Values Voter Summit, Watchmen on the Wall and the Family Policy Lecture series and is influential in shaping the Religious Right’s policy agenda.”
According to the Southern Poverty Law Center, “FRC was designated an anti-LGBT hate group in 2010 for decades of demonizing LGBT people and spreading harmful pseudoscience about them. Over the years, the organization has published books, reports, and brochures that have linked homosexuality to pedophilia, claimed that LGBT people are dangerous to children and claimed that LGBT people are promiscuous and violent.”
Media Matters for America, says that “FRC has worked to push its anti-LGBTQ extremism in other countries, including Perkins personally defending an anti-gay bill in Uganda that could have punished sodomy by death.”
Perkins is a frequent commentator on television for conservative news shows. On May 14, 2018, he was appointed as one of nine commissioners to the United States Commission on International Religious Freedom. (USCIRF) The USCIRF has come under considerable criticism for a Christian bias and anti-Muslim actions.
Perkins spreads the propaganda that Obama was born in Kenya and was a secret Muslim and that natural disasters are a punishment from God for homosexuality.
As President of FRC, he sends out frequent requests for donations to fight against abortion, the LGBT community, and Muslims. Perkins appeals to fear and hate to raise funds for the organization that signs his checks. Perkins has learned that fear and hate pay well.

What kind of person is he? According to SPLC, “Perkins lost his position as a reserve police officer in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, in 1992. During an anti-abortion protest outside a clinic that summer, Perkins, who was working for Jenkins’ low-power television station, learned of plans for violent tactics by the protesters, who planned to break through police lines and charge onto clinic grounds. Perkins opted not to tell his superiors on the force. Instead, Perkins waited outside the clinic with a camera crew from the station, known as “Woody Vision,” poised to report on the action as it unfolded. Scores of anti-abortion protesters were arrested that day. The department suspended Perkins from duty for violating his oath. He resigned shortly thereafter.”
Perkins chose to ignore the safety of the public so he could get video and garner attention for himself. Self-promotion and a paycheck seem to be more important than the safety of other human beings. He claims to protect the life and safety of the unborn but cares very little for the lives of fellow police officers.
Why is Tony Perkins a “profit of hate”? He has White supremacist ties, runs a hate group, and earns a living by doing so. He bamboozles many good Christians into donating money for his hateful causes. Perkins, the FRC, and their message of anti-everything are the reason so many leave the Church and never come back.
