Fundagelicals love them some politics. They are attempting to create a theocracy and return the United States back to its mythical Christian nation roots. What this means is that they have been very politically active to force their version of Christianity on everyone else. To accomplish this, Fundagelicals have developed a veritable toolbox of techniques. They use fear, a fake persecution complex, moral outrage, and of course outright lies.

Fundagelicals never let facts get in the way of their fear narratives. Mat Staver went on crosstalk radio to declare the Equality Act, HR 5, was “the most serious threat to religious freedom, life, and to family.” Staver claims that this piece of Civil Rights legislation would protect pedophiles. There it is; the set up for the lie. The Religious Right has been peddling the same scare tactic since Anita Bryant in the 70s. Fundagelicals love to equate homosexuality with pedophilia.

Staver went on to say, “Well, they are already using the idea of ‘sexual orientation’ to say just as someone is homosexual, lesbian, or gender confused, so this person is minor attracted. That’s what they use, the term minor attracted. That they are sexually attracted to minors, And it’s no different, they say, as a ‘sexual orientation’ than anything else, and so if there is sexual orientation protection, it ought to include pedophilia, because who’s to say that minors should not engage in sex, who’s to say, they say, that adults should not have sex?”

Staver doesn’t tell us who “THEY” are. it’s probably that awful mix of liberal, gay, Democrat, Illuminati, pedophile, magic 8 ball users. he also doesn’t provide any evidence to back this outrageous claim.

Staver then went on to add to his Lie. He claimed that “they say” and read from an infamous editorial from Gay Community News. Here is what he read, “We shall sodomize your sons, emblems of your feeble masculinity, of your shallow dreams and vulgar lies. We shall seduce them in your schools, in your dormitories, in your gymnasiums, in your locker rooms, in your sports arenas, in your seminaries, in your youth groups, in your movie theater bathrooms, in your army bunkhouses, in your truck stops, in your all male clubs, in your houses of Congress, wherever men are with men together.”

Staver has taken this piece out of context and has used it repeatedly in his ongoing smear campaign against the LGBT community. He has been corrected and publically called out numerous times for the falsehood and yet he continues to use it. Of course, he always starts by deleting the first line. Michael Swifts original editorial started “This essay is an outré, madness, a tragic, cruel fantasy, an eruption of inner rage, on how the oppressed desperately dream of being the oppressor.”

The original editorial is available online. The Houston Press notes that “The essay is, well, a gayification of Jonathan Swift’s 1729 “A Modest Proposal,” a benchmark of satire that suggests resolving Ireland’s economic woes by having poor people sell their children to the nobles for food (it even includes recipes).”I

This kind of deliberate and disingenuous use of a satirical editorial is the kind of stuff that gets college freshmen a failing grade on their research papers. It gets Mat Staver a paycheck. Whatever happened to Christians being honest and having integrity? Sorry Mat but lies in the name of God are still lies. If you have to lie about people you don’t like, to get others to join your cause, your cause has ceased to be a Christian one. “Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.” (Matthew 7:27)
