One of the most soul sick individuals I’ve ever heard is Chris McDonald. I’ve blogged on how he is a conspiracy nut, and below is my vlog of his crazy tin foil hat wearing conspiracy spouting ideas about lady Gaga.
However, McDonald a Right Wing Fundagelical has exposed how sick his soul really is and how much he doesn’t understand The Bible, Protestantism, and this country. What he does understand is bigotry and hatred as he continues the Fundagelical tradition of spreading a false gospel of White Nationalism.
On June 27, 2019, on his McFiles show, had this to say about refugees fleeing from the most dangerous countries in the world and crossing the Southern border of the United States. “This is demonic. This is the spirit of Antichrist. Whether people want to admit it or not, it’s the spirit of lawlessness.”
Does he explain how it is demonic or the spirit of the Antichrist for people to seek safety for themselves or children? His only explanation is that they are breaking the law. I’ve already blogged about that. Their actions may be illegal, but they aren’t evil, demonic, or the spirit of the Antichrist. If there is any spirit involved, it is the spirit of terror that forces people to flee their homeland. The only reason to call the actions of these fleeing refugees demonic or the spirit of the Antichrist is to dehumanize them and justify the sick comments to follow.
McDonald continue his tirade of perversity in saying that “I may be a little hardcore about this, but I’m getting sort of sick and tired of the media, and I’m getting sick and tired of these left-wing politicians blaming President Trump for the horrendous conditions at these detention centers, I’ve got news for you, my friend: if they don’t want bad conditions at a detention center, don’t come across our border illegally. You’ve got the greatest center in the world at your home. If you’re complaining about not getting toothpaste and soap at a detention center, I’ve got a remedy for that: Go home! Go home and find your toothpaste and soap at your house.”
Hardcore isn’t the word for it. The word is perverse. It is a perversity not to hold our government to the highest standards possible. If indeed we were founded as a “Christian nation” as Fundagelicals like to claim, then shouldn’t the Golden Rule apply? Do unto others as you would have them do unto you? (Matthew 7:12) If the Old Testament teaches us timeless truths that must be upheld today, as Fundagelicals claim, then what happened to “You shall not wrong a stranger or oppress him, for you were strangers in the land of Egypt.” (Exodus 22:21) or “Cursed is he who distorts the justice due an alien, orphan, and widow. And all the people shall say, ‘Amen.'” (Deuteronomy 27:19) Jesus, in his teaching, condemned those who didn’t help others. As he said in the parable of the sheep and goats, ” I was a stranger, and you did not invite me in; naked, and you did not clothe me; sick, and in prison, and you did not visit me.” We must hold our government to the standard of treating people how we would be treated and even more how we would treat Jesus. Maybe that’s what is going on here; we are treating refugees like we would treat Jesus; after all, he was a dark skinned middle Eastern homeless guy that hung out in a gang.
It is part of Protestant tradition to question our government leaders and our own churches. If McDonald is sick and tired of people criticizing Trump, maybe he should switch to a non-Protestant religion. For that matter, maybe he should forego the United States completely since the ability to criticize our government is one of its greatest values. McDonald is sick and tired of Protestant and American traditions because he is so busy pandering to the racist White nationalist that pay his bills that he doesn’t let little things like Church tradition or the Constitution get in his way.
McDonald shows his ignorance by claiming the best “centers” for refugees are in their own home. If they want toothpaste of soap, they should go there. Refugees are fleeing police death squads, sex trafficking, and the most murderous countries in the world. They live where getting their daily bread is a constant struggle. McDonald shows he knows nothing of what is happening in the world today. His ignorance and cavalier attitude are appalling.
McDonald shows his ignorance of the Bible when he says, “We’re not obligated, I just don’t feel like God has put it on America’s tab to pander to the lawless. God doesn’t pander to the lawless.” Kevin DeYoung from the Gospel Coalition puts it this way, “The Bible is full of explicit commands and implicit commendations to help the poor. One thinks of the gleaning laws in Deuteronomy 25 or the command to “open wide your hand to your brother, to the needy and to the poor” in Deuteronomy 15. We can read about Job’s heart for the needy and oppressed in Job 29 to 31 or of God’s special concern for the poor in Psalm 35 and Proverbs 14. We also know Jesus was moved with compassion for the weak, the harassed, and the helpless (Matt. 9:35-36). We see in the early church that the needs of the poor and distressed was a constant priority (Acts 4:34-35; Acts 11:30; Gal. 2:10). And frequently we are command to love one another not only with words but in the concrete actions of generosity and material support (James 2:15-17; 1 John 3:16-18). Even the elders, who are to be devoted to the word of God and prayer, were told by Paul to help the weak (Acts 20:35).Clearly, God cares about the poor and wants us to care about them too.”
As for God pandering to the lawless, Chris McDonald needs to thank God every day that He does pander to the lawless. It’s a little thing called GRACE! “But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” (Romans 5:8)
